Bamboo
How strong is bamboo? Bamboo has been used in earthquake architecture, buildings and bridges for centuries. It has a tensile strength of 28,000 per square inch. That's stronger than steel at only 23,000 per square inch.
Why is it considered more environmentally friendly than other materials? Bamboo grows 1/3 faster than the fastest growing tree, making it the fastest growing plant on earth! How fast is that? Up to 1 meter a day. Because of the speed at which it grows, it can be harvested in as little as 4-6 years. Once harvested, it does not need to be replanted. It will grow back quickly and hardily. It also creates a fast greening upper canvas for birds and wildlife.
